squint Announces North Louisiana Concert Series:
squintfest 2002

All proceeds from concert will be donated to The National Parkinson
Foundation in honor of squint guitarist's mother, who suffered from
the disease.

Ruston-based rock band squint is organizing a music festival -- squintfest 2002
-- to benefit Parkinson's research.

The two-concert event - featuring noted regional rock acts including Plugg, The
American Tragedy, Built For Speed, Maroon, Kab 9, and squint -- will take place
at 8 p.m. onThursday, May 16, at Rabb's Steak & Spirits located on the I-20
service road in Ruston and at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at Railroad Park in
downtown Ruston. The May 18 show coincides with graduation ceremonies at
Louisiana Tech University. All proceeds will be donated to The National Parkinson
Foundation.

The benefit is being organized in memory of Jane Kay Fredrickson, mother of
squint guitarist Matt Fredrickson. Mrs. Fredrickson battled Parkinson's disease for
two decades. She was only 34 when she was diagnosed with the disease. "The
idea came up in the band to do something charitable, and we agreed that a benefit
for Parkinson's was something that we all could get behind," says Fredrickson. "It's
a very cruel and unfortunately common disease, and research on it could lead to
cures for a number of neurological disorders."

The National Parkinson Foundation raises money for research in the pursuit of a
cure for Parkinson's disease and offers support to those afflicted by Parkinson's
disease. More than one million Americans are afflicted with Parkinson's disease,
with roughly 50,000 new cases being reported every year. Parkinson's disease is a
nerve disorder that causes the progressive destruction of the substania niagra, the
part of the brain that produces dopamine, a chemical necessary for neuromuscular
function. This causes uncontrolled trembling and shaking, a fixed staring expression,
stooped posture, muscle rigidity, an abnormal gait, and loss of balance. It may also
cause sufferers to enter into a serious state of depression as a result of their
symptoms. Effects of the disease may vary from person to person-some will develop
speech problems and difficulty swallowing, while others will suffer progressive
dementia. Most sufferers develop it after the age of fifty, but not always. What
actually causes this horrible disease is often unknown.

Tickets for squintfest 2002 will be $8 and will be available beginning May 8th in
Ruston at Rabb's Steak and Spirits and at Totally Unwired (inside Backus True Value).
The first 200 ticket buyers for each concert will receive a free squintfest tee-shirt at the
time of purchase.
